I stare
Alone
In my four-corner room
Hoping for a better life
But I only get doom
Lost in the dark
Looking for light soon
Every corner that you turn
Guns pop like balloons
How to get out?
I can’t, I’m trapped
Make the wrong move
And it’s a wrap!
Trying to go forward
But I keep looking back
Lost in the light
And I’m blind as a bat
I really like the contrast of “Lost in the dark” at the beginning of the poem and then “lost in the light” at the end. Everyone knows what it feels like to be lost in the dark, but lost in the light is such a different experience, filled with frustration and anger. I’d like to read more poems like this.
Wow! I absolutely love writing like this. It packs a real punch with short lines and powerful images. Not many writers can say so much with so few words. You captured the feeling of being lost and confused and trapped really well. Even if I can never completely know your experiences or be in your shoes, I can identify with that feeling, and that’s what really good writing does – it captures something universal and lets the reader to connect to something inside you. Please keep it up! Lines like “guns pop like balloons” are especially great – try to put in more concrete images like that in your poems in the future, because they draw readers in and let them really feel what you’re saying.
